Remixing Holiday

American singer-songwriter Billie Holiday wrote and performed only twelve original songs in her career as a blues musician. From those twelve songs, there are 183 unique lyrical lines. This project seeks to investigate Holiday's corpus by disassembling and closely examining its component parts.

You can create your own random lyrical composition from these lines using the tool in the box below. You must include at least fifteen lines -- the length of Holiday's shortest song -- and no more than 46, her longest. Or, for the more social of you, create a three-line composition, perfect for sharing on Twitter. You can rest assured, it's highly unlikely that anyone will create the same composition as you do.

The child blessed got his own
